Black Sea CONNECT Caravan on Blue Economy

The second edition of the Black Sea CONNECT Caravan on Blue Economy has been organized at the High School of Computer Programming and Innovation, from Burgas, Bulgaria, on 12 May 2023.

This school has been recommended by the Municipality of Burgas as one of the most important strategic projects of the Municipality to re-organize an old-style professional training institution into a dual education college.

The main topic of the teaching is oriented towards information technology and the activities are organized in partnership with a group of companies from the IT sector.

The aim of the Caravan was to raise awareness for this segment of students on the problems related to the protection of the Black Sea, challenges and opportunities. The presentation included aspects of the connectivity of the Black Sea with the catchment area, the influence of different rivers and the specific aspects of semi-closed seas.

It has been emphasized the problem of marine litter and the discussions initiated with the students have been oriented towards the possibility to use Information technology to educate people to protect the Black Sea and to reduce the consequences of marine litter.

The interaction with the students had the form of questions and rewards for those who were offering answers and comments.

The Caravan has been followed, on 13 May 2023, by a meeting with the Deans of the University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski”. There were presented the main objectives of the Black Sea CONNECT Project and the context of Blue Economy in the Black Sea Region. The discussions have been oriented mostly towards the involvement of different faculties and the involvement of the future Branch of the University, that will be located in Burgas, on topics and aspects of Bioeconomy.

At the end, it was agreed to establish an institutional system of periodic reviews on collaboration opportunities related to Blue Economy in the Black Sea Region.
